Net casting mass estimate
Enter your own volume and density. Box dimensions use millimeters. Results estimate net mass, excluding feed-system metal.
Use CAD volume when available
A watertight solid model gives a better net volume than overall dimensions. Exclude runners and overflows for net component mass; include them separately for a complete shot assessment. Enter the density for the exact specified alloy when known. The aluminum and zinc buttons provide rounded illustrative starting densities, not certified material values.
Understand the box approximation
The hollow-box mode subtracts an inner open cavity from an outer rectangular envelope. It assumes uniform wall and base thickness, no lid, and no draft, radii, bosses, ribs or holes. It can support an early comparison, but it is not a final part weight or machine-selection result. Review actual geometry before quoting.
Review checklist
| Review item | Define before release | Evidence to retain |
|---|---|---|
| Volume | Net solid or simplified open box | Declared geometry basis |
| Density | User-entered alloy density | Material data basis |
| Result | Net mass only | CAD or sample verification |
Worked review example
For 100 cm³ at an illustrative density of 2.70 g/cm³, net mass is 270 g or 0.270 kg. The result says nothing about projected area or required clamping force.
Apply the review to your drawing
Identify the affected features on the current drawing and attach the material, finish and operating requirements that control them. Agree the proposed route and acceptance evidence before releasing a change. Send the controlled files for a project review.
