Aluminum & zinc
Die Casting Alloys
Compare A380, A360, ADC12, AlSi9Cu3, Zamak 3 and Zamak 5 against the specified casting process, part function and finish.
Die casting alloys are selected for the process as well as the final part. Flow behavior, die interaction, shrinkage, ejection, mechanical properties, corrosion, finishing, and machining all influence the choice.
Common options
Aluminum references may include A380, A360, ADC12, and AlSi9Cu3; zinc references may include Zamak 3 and Zamak 5. Similar commercial names do not remove the need to compare chemistry limits and governing standards.
RFQ Requirements
Confirm part function, section thickness, load, environment, coating, pressure or leakage requirement, machined features, restricted substances, recycled-content declarations, material certificates, and acceptance testing.

Process Controls
01
Define functional requirements
Define service conditions, loads, assembly interfaces, quantities, material condition and required inspection records.
02
Select the manufacturing process
Compare material grade, stock form, machining access, secondary operations, finishing and dimensional stability.
03
Verify specified requirements
Verify material documentation and specified part characteristics using agreed inspection methods, sampling and reporting.
